Weather in India

by Cristina

India is home to a variety of climates, ranging from tropical in the south to alpine in the Himalayas. India’s weather is divided into three seasons: winter, summer and monsoon.

Winter runs from November to February and means that the monsoon season ends and the clear skies welcome the visitors. The daytime temperatures are comfortable but can get cold at night.

Summer runs from March to May but the weather stars heating up in February. By April , it’s scorching hot in many places (think 40C). In late May humidity increases and the heavy storms start to appear.

The monsoon season lasts between June and October. In early July India’s west coast starts to be battered by the rain. By July, it rains almost everywhere. The northeast monsoon affects India’s east coast during November and December , while the rest of the country doesn’t experience it.

Best Time to Visit India

Generally speaking, the best time to visit India is during the winter season (November to February). It is peak travel season so expect everything to cost more. It’s time to hit the beaches. Also you can travel within the state of Rajasthan now. It’s a pleasure to enjoy the cool weather as there’s no more unbearable summer heat. Also, during this time of the year you can attend a lot of festivals in the country.

The summer months (March to May) are the best choice if you head to the hills or mountains. For trekking in the Himalayas, September is also a good option. You can also visit the national parks now.

During monsoon season, the only place which is a pleasure to visit is Ladakh in the far north. Or you can head to Goa to enjoy some of the festivals.
